A Study on Intrauterine Contraceptive Device, T Copper Model TCu 200

Abstract
T-Copper Model TCu 200 system is one of the new intrauterine contraceptive devices. This study covered the baseline information, general patterns of acceptance, cervical cytology and radiologic study of T Copper Model TCu 200 system with 441 acceptors observed during a total 4350 months of use from October 1971 to April 1973.
All cases were selected from among .the women registered at the Yonsei University ¢¥Family; Planning Clinic. The average age of acceptors was 32. 3 year old. The average gravidity and parity were 4.8 and 3.2 respectively. The number of living children ranged from 1 to 7 and average was 3.0 51.3 percent of women complained of side effects but no serioussconsequense was noticed. The common side effects were pain aggrevated leukorrhea, hypermenorrhea, and bleeding. The cumulative continuation rate to start of month was 0. 793 at the end of sixth month after insertion and 0.112 at the end of twelfth month. Cumulative termination gate was 0. 153 at the end of sixth month. and 0. 238 at the end of twelfth month. The cumulative expulsion rate was 0.112 at the end. of twelfth month. The cumulative removal rate was 0 238 at the end of twelfth month. Two cases of pregnancies during the use of the device were observed and the pregnancy rate was 0.007. Cervical cytologic study for cancer was done. and there is no evidence that the presence of device caused a progression, of cytology toward cancer.
In 310 cases, radiologic examination was done immediately after insertion. All of the devices were fitted well into the uterine cavity and no extreme abnormal change of shape was demonstrated. The side effect and termination were not influenced by the type and shape of device.Follow up radiologic study was done in 130 cases after various periods of insertion The change of shape of device was demonstrated in 33 cases, 25.4 percent among the cases which were followed by radiologic examination.
